This product contains tomatoes of various sizes, and the distribution of sizes between packs is completely random. Please note that packs are not customizable to include a specific size.
Tomatoes may have lines on their skin or minor cracks due to weather conditions during harvest. Please rest assured there is no issue in safety or quality.
One full 1kg (2.2lbs) bag of fresh frozen certified organic Italian tomatoes (San Marzano) from Japan. The tomatoes included in each pack will vary in size. These tomatoes are organically cultivated with fertilization methods that maintain a natural balance between the producers and the environment. No pesticides are used, rather the soil and crops are protected from disease by spraying natural probiotics including lactic acid bacteria and Bacillus bacteria. Absolutely no flavorings, sugar, preservatives, colorings, or any other additives are used.
San Marzano tomatoes are characterized by an excellent umami flavor when cooked, making them a great choice for pasta sauce and simmered dishes like curry or stew. This variety is said to have the best flavor among the various tomato types. These tomatoes are very easy to slice while defrosting, or can be eaten straight out of the bag for a healthy snack.
We also offer two types of organic cherry tomatoes: a large, sweet type from Aichi prefecture and smaller, more savory type from this Italian tomato producer in Chiba.
About Certified Organic
This product is certified Japan Agricultural Standard Organic (JAS). Japan has one of the world's strictest organic certification standards. But what does certified organic mean when it comes to fruits and vegetables?
✔ Strictly tested for E Coli, coliforms, molds, yeasts as well as listeria and salmonella and therefore meets very high microbiological safety standards.
✔ Free of harmful synthetic chemical inputs such as fertilizer, pesticides or any food additives.
✔ Free of genetically modified seeds (non-GMO)
✔ The farmland and soil in use are free of any chemical treatments.
✔ Organic produce is heavily regulated. Producers and importers are checked and inspected by governmental bodies or certified third parties. Organic certification requires detailed bookkeeping and documentation for 100% traceability. "Certified organic" is a protected phrase and the use is legally restricted.
✔ Organic farming is more sustainable when it comes to holistic food production. The lack of harmful pesticides is better for the environment.
✔ Organic produce comes mostly from family-owned farms that own smaller acres of organic land.
It is also important to mention that organic produce is more cost-intensive. Organic farming has lower yields compared to conventional farming and is oftentimes more labor-intensive as well. Additionally, organic certification and audits require annual fees for producers, exporters, and importers resulting in higher prices for the end consumers.
Please note that non-GMO and chemical-free produce will often have a minor degree of defects; these may include individual differences like slight deformities, discoloration, and under/over ripeness. In rare cases there may be insect damage, scratches, or mold which cannot be seen during inspections. However, these are not harmful and can simply be removed. Thank you for your understanding.

These Italian tomatoes are produced by Share Garden, organic farmers in Chiba, Japan whose goal is to "cultivate safe and worry-free vegetables for our loved ones." They specialize in soil preparation using organic rice bran, plant compost, and hand-made "bokashi" fertilizer, with a goal of practicing and promoting organic farming in their local area. They continuously fertilize the soil with organic matter suited to the specific season and crop that they are cultivating. This approach maximizes the natural power of plants and supports an agricultural ideology that is in harmony with the environment.
