This product was originally Certified JAS Organic, but is temporarily being offered without this certification. Due to a shortage of the usual certified feed, the chickens were fed with an alternate feed. Rest assured that the alternate feed also meets organic standards and is completely safe and worry-free. This product continues to be certified organic in New Zealand. We apologize for any concern this temporary change may cause, and we thank you for your understanding.
Note that organic chicken meat tends to have red or brown coloring around the bones even after cooking. This is not blood, rather it is proteins called myoglobin and hemoglobin which are predominantly found in healthy free-range chicken that exercise and move a lot. There are no safety or quality concerns. Brining the chicken 24h prior to cooking in a salt solution helps reduce the visual impact.
You get 1 fully sized whole bone-in chicken without the giblets and neck - basically ready for roasting. Choose between 1.3kg (2.8lbs) and 1.9kg (4.1lbs) sizes. That should fit any regular oven in Japan. The chicken is naturally slow grown and therefore the meat is much healthier, better formed, tastier, and juicier than commodity chicken. There are no bruises or broken bones that you often find on poor factory-farmed birds. Perfect for a family dinner or gathering. Used with plenty of healthy oven-roasted vegetables this bird can easily feed the whole family.
