Introducing Certified JAS Organic raw salted rice malt - a traditional Japanese seasoning made from fermented rice with salt and water. This 170g (5.9oz) pack of additive-free salted rice "koji" malt is a harmonious blend of savoriness, mild sweetness, and subtle fermented notes, with earthy and nutty undertones and a pleasant aroma. Unlike dried malt, this raw type boasts a higher level of fermentation. With meticulously selected all-natural ingredients, you can be sure this additive-free raw salted rice malt can be used with total peace of mind. Absolutely no artificial flavors, coloring, preservatives, or any other nasties.
This sauce is incredibly easy to use, and can be consumed as is. We recommend adding into stir-fry, salads, stews, soups, and hot pot dishes to enhance the rich flavors. It can also be sprinkled on sashimi and left to rest in the refrigerator as a marinade. The possibilities are endless, so feel free to use your imagination and enjoy it however you like. The enzymes in salted rice malt break down carbs, proteins, and fiber, allowing for a better umami flavor. Marinating meat or fish before cooking can draw out and enhance the natural meat flavors creating exceptional flavor with the malt itself. Depending on use, it can also be used as a substitute for salt to reduce sodium intake.
Differences Between Soy Sauce Malt and Salted Rice Malt
Horizon Farms offers two kinds of certified organic malts: Raw Soy Sauce Malt and the Raw Salted Rice Malt seen here. Both products are used to draw out and accentuate umami flavors in your meals, but the ingredients and flavors are different. Salted rice malt is made by fermenting rice malt with sea salt and water and is ideal for highlighting the natural taste of a dish. Soy sauce malt uses the same fermenting process, but adds in soy sauce as well. This gives it a characteristic roasted soy sauce aroma and deep, sweet flavor. It is recommended for dishes where you want to enhance the flavor with the distinct taste of soy sauce.
