Translated from Japanese: The other Horizon Farms bacon is also very delicious and because cabbage is in season, I bought this one to put it in instant sauerkraut. The smoke worked well and was delicious and I was very satisfied.

Horizon Farms proudly presents probably Japan's first all-natural, sugar-free, free-range pork bacon. This took us a year of experimenting and many costly batches. Here we are:

This bacon is cured for two weeks in an all-natural curing process using only natural spices. Absolutely no nitrates added, no curing salts, no celery. Then smoked for a duration of 3 hours using natural hickory smoke. Nope, no sugars ever. The result is amazingly good bacon that you can enjoy with your whole family. This tends to be more the American style bacon that crisps up and shrinks rather than the lean British or Canadian bacon which is usually made from the pork loin. 

We use the pork belly which has relatively high-fat content - the juices are what makes our bacon so succulent. The pork comes from Austria which is free-range pork and completely free of growth hormones and antibiotics. We say it again: our bacon comes free of preservatives, additives, gluten, lactose, MSG, fillers, sugar, white sugar, brown sugar, honey powder, agave, turbinado sugar, nitrates, flavor or color enhancers, or any artificial ingredients or nasties, just family farm produced, ethically raised high-quality pork and top-quality natural spices from around the world. Cured for 2 weeks, smoked, sliced and blast frozen - all made in Japan. Hands down, this might be the cleanest bacon available. A difference in quality you can taste. Each pack contains 300g worth of thick pre-sliced bacon. The thickness is 6mm which probably too thick to use as a burger topping or to wrap around vegetables. The best-recommended use is bacon bits for salad topping or to mix with scrambled eggs.  Cook on high heat without adding any oil in the frypan. Defrost the pack of bacon in a bowl of water (less than 1 hour) or in the fridge overnight.

Prepare a frying-pan to high heat and place the bacon slices without additional oil or butter into the frying pan. If you have a splatter screen at hand, use it.

The pork belly that we use for the bacon is relatively high in fat and it will show during cooking. The bacon will also shrink in size and become crispy - the very characteristics of American style bacon. Turn them once to have a crispy surface on both sides.

Translated from Japanese: I cooked them in a frypan and then put them into a lentil stew. Without adding salt to the lentils, I ate it together and the perfect degree of spiciness was amazing.
Because the skin is thick, it’s very elastic, so there might be people who can’t bite through it with their teeth (I took a big bite). But if you properly use a knife and fork, you can eat with no problems. It might be better to cook the sausages on low flame until the skin is slightly burned. I didn’t cook them the way you can see them in the pictures on the website.

Finally a nice breakfast sausage in Japan

Coming from the west one tends to do without when it comes to certain traditional foods. This is the best breakfast sausage I have tasted in years. The bonus is that you can make a perfectly sized patty out of two sausages for the perfect egg and sausage sandwich.

They’re easy to eat because they’re skinless! The herbal scent is amazing!
