The Secret: Choosing the Right Patty for Perfect Flavor
Homemade burgers can be surprisingly delicious with just a few simple adjustments. Choosing the right ingredients, refining your cooking technique, and balancing flavors can turn a home-cooked burger into something that rivals what you’d get at a restaurant - one that could have people saying, “You made this at home?!” The key to achieving this is selecting the right patty. With quality meat, anyone can make a burger that truly stands out.
At Horizon Farms, we offer three types of premium patties:
- Grass-fed beef patties with rich, full-bodied flavor
- Morgan Ranch beef patties (grass-fed, grain-finished), loved by top restaurants around the world, including Michelin-starred establishments
- Domestic Wagyu beef patties
All three are made with 100% beef and no fillers for an authentic, full-flavored taste.
We’ve also released a video guide showing how to make homemade burgers. From the perfect cooking temperature to the ideal timing for flipping, it covers the details that are hard to explain in words, so you can get the best results at home.
Our Commitment to Quality
At Horizon Farms, our meat reflects the passion and care of local farmers who raise their cattle responsibly.
- Raised in a safe and clean environment
- Cared for with low-stress, animal-friendly methods
- Cattle raised freely on wide open pastures
- Naturally grown on a grass-fed diet
- Raised without antibiotics or growth hormones
This careful approach results in meat with rich flavor, enticing aroma, and high-quality fat. Because the meat is already exceptional on its own, it doesn't need anything extra to shine in your cooking.
Burger Patties vs. Hamburger Steak
Homemade hamburger steaks and burger patties might look alike, but they’re made for different purposes and prepared in entirely different ways.
1. Patties Rely on Pure Beef
A hamburger steak is a prepared dish, made by mixing onions, breadcrumbs, eggs, and other ingredients. A burger patty, on the other hand, is 100% beef with no fillers, allowing you to savor the meat’s natural flavor and aroma.
2. Different Cooking Techniques
While hamburger steaks are cooked slowly over low heat, burger patties are treated more like steaks:
- Sear the outside for a flavorful crust
- Keep the inside juicy and tender
- Avoid overcooking
Our video guide makes these professional techniques easy to follow, so you can achieve perfect patties at home every time.
Grass-Fed vs Grain-Finished
Grass-fed (pasture-raised) beef is:
- Lean, full-flavored, and aromatic
- Ideal for those looking to savor the meat's natural, healthy taste
Grain-finished (grain-fed finish) beef is:
- Tender, juicy, and packed with rich flavor
- Perfect for those seeking a restaurant-quality, indulgent taste
With both being authentic, high-quality patties, even homemade burgers can deliver the same rich, professional flavor.

How to Make Homemade Burgers
Classic Burger with a Flavorful Grass-Fed Beef Patty
■ Ingredients (2 Burgers)
- 2 grass-fed beef patties
- 2 sprouted wheat buns
- 2 leaves of lettuce
- 2-4 slices of tomato
- 2-4 slices of onion
- 1 teaspoon of butter
- A pinch of salt and black pepper
- Ketchup and mustard, to taste
- Pickles (optional)
■ Instructions
1. Fully thaw the patties
- Recommended: 12 hours in the refrigerator
- Limited Time: 30-60 minutes in ice water
- Note: Fully thawing the patty prevents uneven cooking and keeps the lean meat tender and juicy
2. Prepare the buns
The sprouted wheat buns are pre-sliced but may be stuck together when frozen.
- Don’t force them apart. Lightly warm in a toaster for 20-30 seconds
- They will naturally open; gently separate by hand
- Toast the cut sides facing up for 60-90 seconds
3. Cook the patties
- Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Season the patties with salt and fresh-cracked black pepper and place them in the pan
- Flip frequently every 30-40 seconds
- When the juices start to appear on the surface, the patties are done
- Transfer to a cutting board and let rest for about 5 minutes
4. Prepare the vegetables
- Pat the lettuce dry to remove excess moisture
- Slice the tomatoes about 5mm thick
- Slice onions thinly
- Lightly press slices with a paper towel to remove extra water if needed
5. Assemble the burgers
- Spread ketchup and mustard on the bun
- Layer lettuce → tomato → onion
- Place the patty on top
- Add pickles if desired
- Top with the upper bun
The nutty aroma of the sprouted wheat buns perfectly complements the rich, savory flavor of the lean beef.

- Place cut sides up and toast for 60-90 seconds until golden brown
4. Cook the patties
